Chamomile Eyes celebrates the meeting of traditional healing ways with tools of contemporary medicine. Amidst a healthy sky blue backdrop, chamomile tea flowers make up the eyes of a surreal figure's head. Their hair is woven into trenzas and serves as a gateway to the portal behind them where contemporary meets tradition. Two tea cups dangle at the corners near the trenzas and an aloe plant, known for its healing properties, reaches across the space between. At the top of the frame, a doctor's stethoscope winds between two jars of ointment set amongst an orange sky full of stars, symbolizing precision and observation. To the sides are pillars of mint leaves set in a life-giving red. The stripes of an agricultural landscape ground the frame at the bottom where a thermometer and wooden honey dipper intersect representing the meeting of science, tradition and care. 
 
This image was originally commissioned by Martin Luther King jr. Community Hospital in South LA for their Hispanic Heritage Month Poster series.
